Asbestos Decontamination
Several clues may raise suspicion about the presence of asbestos in a building or building materials. Construction prior to the 1990s, the appearance of friable or fibrous materials such as insulation, plaster, or certain floor coverings, as well as previous work without specific asbestos measures, are potential signs. However, only specialized tests carried out by certified professionals can confirm the presence of asbestos, ensuring that appropriate measures are taken to protect the safety of occupants and workers.

OUR METHOD
01
RELEVANCE
Asbestos decontamination is essential to prevent health risks associated with this toxic substance. Before renovation, demolition, or rehabilitation work, decontamination is essential in older buildings where materials may contain asbestos, thus avoiding potential exposure when handling these materials. Similarly, at industrial sites or landfills, this procedure is crucial to prevent the dispersion of asbestos fibers into the environment. When asbestos-containing materials are damaged, brittle, or likely to release fibers, decontamination becomes imperative to reduce health risks to occupants or workers.
The entire process is meticulously documented to ensure compliance with environmental standards and to provide accurate tracking from transport to final disposal of asbestos waste, thereby contributing to the preservation of public health and the environment in accordance with Quebec regulations.
02
PROCESS
A thorough assessment is carried out to identify materials containing asbestos, evaluate their condition, and determine the level of contamination.
Trained professionals equipped with special clothing and PPE isolate the affected area. Decontamination methods vary depending on the context: for friable materials, an encapsulation or enclosure may be used to seal the asbestos fibers, while for non-friable materials, complete removal may be necessary. Removal involves specialized techniques such as wetting, manual or mechanical removal of contaminated materials, followed by thorough cleaning using HEPA vacuums and damp cloths.
The final disposal of asbestos waste involves a strict and secure process. Asbestos waste is first packaged and labeled in accordance with regulatory standards, then transported by authorized contractors to specialized facilities. These sites have procedures and equipment in place to safely dispose of asbestos, either by burial in specific sites or by controlled incineration.
Once the materials have been removed, a check is carried out to ensure that all asbestos residues have been completely eliminated.
Finally, quality control tests are carried out to ensure that the decontaminated area is safe and complies with standards.

INTERPRETATION
OF RESULTS
Asbestos detection requires specific management to ensure safety. Hire certified experts to assess risks and develop a management plan. Restrict access to affected areas, clearly label materials containing asbestos, and implement safety measures for workers. Depending on the condition of the materials, consider safe containment measures or hire professionals for safe removal. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and schedule regular assessments to guarantee ongoing, safe asbestos management.
